Nuclear hormone receptor signalling in endothelia

The current focus of our laboratory is to define the role of nuclear receptors (in particular liver-X receptors) as lipid sensors and regulators in endothelial cells representing an underestimated, potent part of the innate immune system. Fundamental molecular mechanisms of nuclear hormone receptor signaling in endothelial immuno-metabolic functions are investigated. Additional projects will aim to elucidate effects of modulated endothelial activation on innate/adaptive immune cells. Primary cell-based in vitro models and transgenic animal models are employed to implicate these processes in diseases.
